The new Belleza Fine Art Gallery looks, to all outward appearances, like any other nice art gallery on Bisbee, Arizona’s Main Street. But there is a lot going on beneath the surface that makes Belleza one of the most unique galleries in Arizona. For one thing, it is owned by a group of homeless women. MORE

Non-profits turning enterprising
In June, Yale's School of Management and the Goldman Sachs Foundation completed its third-annual business plan competition for nonprofit groups. More than 450 groups nationwide entered. Among the finalists was Bisbee's Women's Transition Project, a transitional housing program. It made the cut for its income-generating Belleza Gallery, which showcases furniture made by Women's Transition Project clients and work from regional artists. MORE

The Women’s Foundation of Southern Arizona is pleased to award $101,000 this year to 15 innovative programs designed to improve the lives of a diverse group of women and girls in southern Arizona. The Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust presented $1,724,500 in grants to 21 Arizona agencies…“Our funding helps people in need, protects animals and nature, and enriches community life in Arizona and Indiana, the states Mrs. Pulliam called home,” explained Harriet M. At Cafe, it's praise lord and pass the cappuccino
Local artists will showcase their creations on the walls, and a line of Adirondack furniture will be featured for sitting and for sale. The furniture was made by residents of the Women's Transition Project in Bisbee, a shelter for homeless women and their children. MORE

Bisbee Belleza Gallery Moves
The ceilings at the old Royal Theater that opened in 1905, are six feet higher than…the old Belleza Gallery building…The new location, which is at 27 Main St., was also once a soda fountain drug store and more recently housed the Central Store. MORE
